Tuesday sightseeing in Kingston. We took pictures of some beautiful statues in town, created by Edna Manley. *Negro aroused* is one of the most famous one and is located near the waterline. Further downtown to visit the National Gallery. Since we were not permitted to their parking, a very friendly gentleman approached us and offered a parkingspot directly opposite the main entrance. He would have an eye on the car, and make sure that it will not be towed away by the ever so present Police. Since he was a security person in the opposite building and sitting there all day. Great !
There is one room dedicated to Afro-Caribbean culture in the National Gallery and artwork from famous jamaican artists like Kapo Reynolds, Barrington Watson, Carl Abrahams and Colin Garland, but Edna Manley is clearly the best ! The artist and wife of Ex President Norman Manley and mother of Ex President Michael Manley has created some beautiful pieces of art in her collection.
When we came out of the National Gallery, our car had been very well looked after. Thank you and Big Up Mr. Security ! Your help was much appreciated !
We stopped and took pictures of the old warehouses in downtown Kingston, bought patty, went to Scotia, drove along a very busy market and visited the National Hero's Park. Sir Alexander Bustamante, Norman and Edna Manley, Michael Manley, Marcus Garvey, Paul Bogle and Nanny of the Maroons , all have a memorial here. Dennis Brown the famous Reggae Legend is also laid to rest in this park. Park of dead heroes . We met a very friendly young gentlemen and chatted this and that, laughed together. Such a lovely person.
Some more driving up and down the road to find Tuff Gong Recording Studios but we missed it. Back to the hotel and making plans for the next day. Port Royal, here we come.....
